Old school stop-motion puppet animation whiz Henry (Nightmare Before Christmas, Monkeybone) Selick plays with dual realities again, which lends itself well to stop-mo cuz, as in this case, where a little girl discovers an alternate dream world mirroring her own mundane actuality; the fanciful puppetized dream segments help reinforce the believability of its puppet “reality” doppelganger! Thus already tossed into a highly stylized world from the getgo, the imaginary world’s own imaginary world engenders complete credence for the whole preposterous proposal! The heading for this Motion Picture Purgatory which originally appeared in a 2009 issue of The Montreal Mirror was “Doppelganger Haranguer!” As always; the original art’s for sale @ 100 bucks.
