My parents seemed altered here, affected by the magnitude of everything. They assumed roles, responsibilities, as if they were part of this presentation to the world. My father spoke to the ticket-takers & guides in French, rarely heard at home, while my mom in her new psychedelic-print dress became a volunteer tour guide, forcing herself on anyone who looked lost or even a little uncertain, asking them if they were looking for the Minirail terminal or the American Pavilion.
